How You'll Contribute
  • Applies technical knowledge and skills to maintain procedural quality standards.
  • Performs department specific waived, moderately complex and high complexity applications.
  • Maintains and applies procedural knowledge to deliver efficient, uninterrupted service, while reporting results within the specified time limits.
  • Performs all calibration quality control, instrument function checks, patient testing and troubleshooting according to sections procedure manual and operator's manual. Performs preventative maintenance logs for completeness when scheduled.
  • Monitors and reviews QC and worksheets for completeness when requested. Collects and evaluates data for QA issues.
  • Recognizes, confirms and/or verifies test results that are unusual, delta failures, or verify failures as described in the section's procedure manual or lab practice manual. Helps develop solutions to problems. Communicates opportunities to improve quality, workflow, and other pertinent issues to the coordinating tech or lab manager.
  • Informs coordinating tech or lab manager of all pertinent activities and unresolved problems. Investigates appropriate documentation when requested. In the absence of a coordinating tech or manager, coordinates services or staffing when needed.
  • Assumes the responsibility of charge tech on off-shifts if assigned by manager.
  • Maintains professional skills through continuing education and provides appropriate care to patients of all ages (neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics).
  • Assures complete and accurate training to all employees having less experience in addition to students in clinical rotation.
  • Maintains effective and efficient use of reagents, chemicals, and supplies while assuring adequate supplies in all work areas.
  • Performs and evaluates competency when requested or assigned by coordinating tech or lab manager.
  • Follows all hospital and lab safety procedures and guidelines. Recognizes and reports unsafe practices or conditions to the manager.
  • Draws venous, arterial and capillary samples from patients according to phlebotomy procedures and age specific needs of the patient.
  • Rotates all shifts according to the schedule.
  • When assigned, develops new clinical procedures or revises existing by performing method validations and writing/revising a CLSI approved procedure.
  • When assigned, coordinates the proficiency testing and review for the laboratory section.
  • Follows basic infection control practices and guidelines.
  • Performs sectional housekeeping.
  • Performs and evaluates competency when requested.
  • Performs all clerical functions related to job, and handles specimens as directed.
What We're Looking For

Bachelor's degree in medical technology, MLS or related science including at least 12 months in a hospital training program or near completion of program; or otherwise qualified as a medical technologist as defined by Federal and State Regulations. Additional requirements include:

  • Currently registered with American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or eligible for registry. Successful Completion of registering within 12 months of employment. BLS/CPR within 6 months of employment.
