The role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most exciting defence programmes — the Type 31 frigate build. This is a hands‑on role where your mechanical expertise will directly contribute to the delivery of cutting‑edge naval capability. You’ll be part of a dynamic team working in bays, manufacturing areas and build halls, installing and assembling critical components that power the Royal Navy’s future fleet.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Installing pumps, valves, pipework, filters, main engines and mounts
  • Carrying out general mechanical fitting tasks across the build hall
  • Using magnetic base drills and marking out fish plates
  • Interpreting technical drawings and applying torque settings
  • Diagnosing faults and ensuring high‑quality workmanship

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and based onsite at Rosyth.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter
