Manager, Methodology Development (9 mth maternity cover contract)

Technical - United Kingdom (Remote)

Gold Standard is a civil society NGO and a standards body that promotes the best that can be achieved in climate and development projects. It was established in 2003 by WWF and other international NGOs as a best practice standard to ensure that projects which reduce carbon emissions also deliver credible, high‑integrity sustainable development benefits. In close collaboration with its network of partners (civil society, governments, and private sector), Gold Standard leads several global innovation programs and supports 4000+ climate and development projects in over 100 countries worldwide.

The role is responsible for leading and overseeing the organization's methodology development function, focusing on carbon accounting and impact measurement methodologies for community, energy and carbon removal sectors. It supports the drive for innovation in measurement frameworks while ensuring alignment with Paris Agreement, international standards, impact verification requirements and best practices approaches.

What you will be doing
  • Support the development and management of impact quantification methodologies with focus on measurement, reporting, and verification frameworks.
  • Manage and coordinate technical working groups for methodology development and enhancement.
  • Oversee multiple parallel methodology development processes for various carbon accounting applications.
  • Lead and mentor technical teams in carbon accounting methodology development.
  • Identify emerging opportunities for new and innovative methodologies development and innovative technology‑based solutions for standard/methodology level adoptions.
Who we are looking for
  • PhD with 5+ years sectoral experience or master’s degree with 8+ years sectoral experience in carbon markets or a related field.
  • Expert knowledge of greenhouse gas accounting methodologies and international standards, including lifecycle assessment frameworks, Paris Agreement frameworks (e.g., Article 6.4), GHG verification, or related environmental fields.
  • Excellence in project management, with proven success in handling complex technical initiatives while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, particularly in managing diverse, international teams and expert networks.
