About The Role

Intercity is on the lookout for a Management Accountant for a 12 month FTC to join our Finance team. If you’re passionate about turning data into decisions, love working with detail, and want to play a key role in shaping financial performance this is the opportunity for you.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you’ll lead the monthly management accounts process and support wider financial reporting. You’ll be hands‑on with everything from journal postings and reconciliations to variance analysis and audit prep. It’s a role where accuracy meets insight, and where your work directly supports strategic decision‑making.

This position is available to anyone able to commute to our Birmingham office or Meppershall Office.

Key Responsibilities as a Management Accountant:

  • Leading the production of accurate and timely monthly management accounts
  • Ensuring revenue and expenses are correctly reflected in line with reporting standards
  • Preparing and reviewing detailed P&L and balance sheet schedules
  • Posting journals and reconciling control accounts
  • Managing purchase order requests and supporting financial controls
  • Carrying out monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Supporting the preparation of financial reports for senior management
  • Assisting with audit preparation and annual financial statements
  • Delivering monthly variance analysis and commentary
  • Identifying and driving process improvements across the finance function
  • Supporting ad‑hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed
  • Collaborating with teams across the business to drive operational and cost efficiencies

Experience Required:

  • Relevant experience in a finance department
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Good working knowledge of Excel
  • Experience with Sage X3 (beneficial but not essential)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with the wider business
  • A proactive, enthusiastic approach to problem‑solving and continuous improvement
  • Part‑qualified in CIMA or ACCA (preferred but not essential)
