Job description
Legal Support Assistant - Business Crime & Regulatory

JMW's Business Crime & Regulatory department are looking for an organised and adaptable individual to join our growing Professional Misconduct team as a Legal Support Assistant, providing case management administrative assistance to our team of lawyers.

The successful candidate will be motivated by working in a very fast-paced environment, with a positive attitude, and a strong team player who works well under pressure and facing unexpected deadlines. No previous legal sector experience is required but experience of working in a support role will be advantageous.

Key Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting with ensuring that all files are maintained, to include opening and closing processes and filing of relevant documents
  • Managing fee earner’s diaries including organising and scheduling meetings, appointments, as well as taking an active role in arranging and sometimes attending marketing activities etc
  • Responsiblity for ensuring that any incoming document production tasks are monitored and are completed within the required time frames
  • Preparing billing guides and draft bills (with fee earner input) and supporting the team in managing effective and timely billing processes
  • Liaising with third parties in relation to criminal and police misconduct cases, i.e. dealing with clients, Fed Reps, counsel’s chambers, CPS, insurers and other third parties. (POINT 5)
  • Preparing expenses forms, gaining approval and submitting to accounts in accordance with deadlines; Assist with payments processing for third parties in a timely manner
  • Communicating and coordinate effectively with the BCR team, and Legal Support Team Leader including during staff shortages where support to the wider department will be necessary
  • Communicating with colleagues and clients of the firm in a professional and courteous manner
  • Other duties within the scope of responsibility and ability, as required; such as assisting department management team in the coordination of recruitment and departures working alongside relevant cross-departmental functions (HR/IT), and trainee and work experience rotations in collaboration with central departments, event planning , and the management and general organisation of the department

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Skills required to work with a proactive approach and the ability independently work well under pressure and when facing unexpected deadlines/workloads
  • Be able to prioritise your own workload and stake holder requirements effectively
  • Adaptable to changing work tasks
  • IT literate
  • Ability to demonstrate utmost confidentiality and integrity as role holder may, at times, where appropriate, be required to support the Departmental Head with sensitive managerial information
  • History of working with CMS systems such as Proclaim, i-Manage and In-Tapp, however adequate training will be provided for candidates considered to bear excellent learning and adaptability skills
  • Experience with Business Crime and Regulatory specialism within the legal sector, however, for candidates showing adaptability and keen to learn and add value, consideration will be given and adequate training and support to develop
