Job description

Our client is a leading, highly regarded legal practice based in the York region. This firm has a well below average turnover of staff, a dedicated team of lawyers and support staff well established with a strong client base. They are seeking a fully experienced legal secretary to work alongside a highly skilled property lawyer (and office dog!).

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to legal professional, including managing calendars and scheduling appointments.
  • Prepare, proofread, and format legal documents, correspondence, and reports with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Conduct audio typing and transcribing of legal documents as required.
  • Maintain an organised filing system for both electronic and paper documents, ensuring easy retrieval of information.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and external parties, demonstrating professionalism at all times.
  • Utilise IT tools such as Microsoft Excel and Outlook to manage data and correspondence efficiently.
  • Assist in the preparation for court hearings and meetings by gathering necessary documentation and materials.
  • Manage time effectively to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.

Experience

  • Proven experience as a Legal Secretary or in a similar administrative role within a legal environment is preferred.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on clarity and professionalism.
  • Proficient in audio typing, with a good understanding of legal terminology.
  • Competent in using office software applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook) to enhance productivity.
  • Strong time management skills with an ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
