Job summary

A leading engineering company is seeking a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer in hybrid work mode in Ashton-under-Lyne. You will be responsible for creating detailed mechanical designs for various wastewater sites, particularly focusing on CSO upgrades. Ideal candidates will have 1-2 years of mechanical design experience and knowledge in water or wastewater treatment projects.   • Experience with CSOs, pumping stations, and screening systems considered a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Producing mechanical detailed designs for CSO sites — including screens, penstocks, valves, and washwater systems.
  • Preparing GA drawings, P&IDs, and equipment schedules.
  • Coordinating with E&I and civil teams for integrated designs.
  • Providing technical input during design reviews and construction phases.

This is a great opportunity for a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join an engineering company supporting their client on an extensive CSO upgrade programme. You’ll be delivering detailed mechanical designs for multiple small wastewater sites, following standard templates and specifications.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Producing mechanical detailed designs for CSO sites — including screens, penstocks, valves, and washwater systems
  • Preparing GA drawings, P&IDs, and equipment schedules
  • Coordinating with E&I and civil teams to ensure integrated, efficient designs
  • Providing technical input and support during design reviews and construction phases
Must have:
  • Proven mechanical design experience within water or wastewater treatment projects
  • Ideally have water or wastewater treatment projects experience such as CSOs, pumping stations, and screening systems
