Job description
Overview

RPS Tetra Tech is seeking a Junior Data Analyst to join our growing and vibrant West Wales AS&I team, supporting data-driven project delivery for a range of clients. This is a key opportunity to contribute to impactful transformation initiatives through intuitive, interactive, and strategic data solutions.

About the Team

The RPS Asset, Surveying, and Inspection (AS&I) team provides industry‑leading services to the UK Water Industry. Our employees support Water Networks, Drainage, Surveying, Leakage Consultancy, Water Resources, and Efficiency. We analyse complex data to deliver pragmatic solutions, including reducing water leakage, preventing flooding, and combating pollution in local communities.

Our Welsh Water asset management and delivery professionals develop and deliver industry‑leading solutions in flooding, pollution, water quality and leakage. We find and repair leaks on the network to minimise water wastage, which benefits Welsh Water customers and the environment.

About You

As a key member of the AS&I business, you will work as a Junior Data Analyst, crucial to our strategic priorities – delivering superior work for clients by providing excellent customer service and executing complex operational tasks. Whether you are just starting or taking the next step, this role offers an opportunity to progress with RPS.

Your day will focus on unlocking the value of client data: design, build, and optimise business‑intelligence reports and dashboards that enable smart decision‑making. You will work across diverse digital projects and corporate applications, delivering new insights and enhancing existing systems.

The role also involves putting data into action and supporting engineering teams on site. You will report to the Contract Supervisor, be responsible for training and mentoring leakage staff, and help deliver leakage reduction and performance within West Wales. Approximately 50% of the time will be spent in the office and the remainder on site. Flexibility is required: weekends, evenings, and overtime as needed. You will also travel to different locations and work outdoors, rain or shine.

Your Responsibilities
  • Adept at developing, publishing, and scheduling Power BI reports as per business requirements.
  • Using exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and outliers.
  • Mining data from software applications used for investigations, reporting, metrics, and trending.
  • Proficient at inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and analysing raw data to discover useful information, inform conclusions, and support effective decision‑making.
  • Responsible for designing and building scalable data models and enabling advanced analytic capabilities that provide meaningful business value through easy‑to‑understand visualisations.
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to deliver relevant insights based on identified business requirements.
  • Working independently through unstructured tasks.
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ensuring Health & Safety is maintained and upholding RPS Company Policies at all times.
  • Undertaking training and completing individual training matrix/plan.
  • Assessing and ensuring good leakage practice is always adhered to and reported.
  • Working closely with under‑achieving staff to ensure targets are achieved and maintained.
  • Attending client meetings when required.
  • Trialling new equipment and producing detailed reports.
  • Forming and maintaining excellent working relationships with colleagues, other contractors, and clients.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
  • Good understanding and demonstrable working knowledge of computer software packages (Microsoft, GIS, and specific technical programs).
  • A track record of training and delivery.
  • Ability to interpret and understand water network schematics and plans to a high standard.
  • Extensive knowledge of Water Network Hydraulics, Leakage Detection Techniques, Monitoring and reporting of Leakage Levels, and other issues associated with the Clean Water Industry.
  • Excellent working knowledge of leakage delivery.
  • Ability to quickly learn new theories, techniques, and working methods and deliver to leakage staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable effective communication with internal and external colleagues, contractors, technical specialists, consultants, and senior managers.
  • Well‑organised with the ability to manage own workload and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage conflicting deadlines while maintaining high standards.
  • Enjoys working as a team with a flexible, "can‑do" attitude, and a cooperative approach to giving and receiving help.
Health and Safety
  • Moving heavy items including inspection chamber covers.
  • Working in all weather conditions (including night work).
  • May be required to work in confined spaces and on highways.
  • Mandatory drug and alcohol tests and DBS check will be undertaken.
