Job summary

A community support organization in Birmingham is looking for a Lead Worker to provide a city-wide support service aimed at empowering deaf citizens. This role will require skills in assessing needs and providing advice. The ideal candidate will possess a BSL level 3 qualification or be a native Deaf BSL user. This is a full-time maternity cover position paying £24,694 per annum.

We are recruiting for a Lead Worker to join our team and to deliver a city-wide support service to empower deaf citizens to live healthy, happy lives. This is a 12 month maternity cover position.

You will be working under the supervision of the Team Manager to deliver frontline services, maintaining high level of knowledge and be able to offer support with a range of needs such as:

  • Improving Health and wellbeing
  • Obtaining and maintaining accommodation
  • Engaging and participating in the community/social groups
  • Economic wellbeing – benefit/grant applications
  • To provide high quality advice and guidance
  • Unblocking barriers and supporting with access into external services such as health, wellbeing, employment preparation, social, and housing/debt advice to people with sensory loss.

To be successful for this post:

  • You will have experience in working with individuals who have a hearing loss.
  • You will have experience in undertaking client assessments and risk assessments.
  • You will have experience providing advice and signposting clients to external agencies (e.g. Adult Social Care, Birmingham City Council).
  • You will hold a BSL level 3 qualification or be a native Deaf BSL user.
