Job description

Priory Stockton Hall is looking to recruit a number of Healthcare Assistants to join their team. These are full‑time roles – 32.25 or 37.5 hours per week.

Annual Salary: £25,810.79 / Hourly Pay rate: £13.20

This role includes a mix of day and night shifts
Weekend & Bank holiday work included.

Day Shifts – 7:25 am – 7:45 pm / Night shifts – 7:25 pm – 7:45 am

The rota will be 3 months of day shifts and 1 month of night shifts.

A healthcare qualification or experience is desirable but not essential. We are also looking for individuals with transferable skills from customer-facing roles or recent graduates who have completed their studies in a relevant field. We seek individuals who display the right values and behaviours to make a positive difference in people's lives.

Si ery interested in forensics or psychology, Stockton Hall offers excellent hands‑on experience in these fields. Priory Stockton Hall is a long-serving medium secure hospital based in a quiet but well‑connected village near the historic city of York. It serves the local Provider Collaborative and multiple National Collaboratives, and has had a long‑running record of successful patient pathways. We model our service provision on the NHS secure service specification for medium and low secure services, ensuring our patients are given the highest quality of care to enable quick and smooth transitions into local services, wherever possible.

What you'll be doing

You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients' wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.

  • Observe and monitor the wellbeing of patients, ensuring any unusual physical, mental or emotional occurrences are promptly referred to senior staff/the primary nurse and documented as appropriate.
  • Provide specific interventions with patients as delegated by a Registered Nurse, following training and competency attainment. Such interventions include observation and engagement with patients, escorting patients on leave, and being involved in de‑escalation and management of violence and aggression.
  • Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in regular ward meetings and attend other meetings as requested.
  • Assist in the maintenance of stock levels, including pharmaceutical products.
  • Assist in the maintenance of ward cleanliness and tidiness and adhere to infection control policy and procedures at all times.
  • Develop and maintain a good professional relationship with patients, colleagues, and visitors, responding promptly and courteously to requests and enquiries.
  • Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of the patient and carers.
  • Ensure service users are gaining a quality service that is value for their money.
  • Receive and convey information from telephone or personal enquiries in a courteous manner and ensure all persons visiting the ward are greeted and assisted in a welcoming and supportive manner.
