About us

National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.

About the role

As Health & Safety Advisor, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the safe planning, execution, and completion of construction activities within National Gas. You’ll operate across multiple project sites and support operational teams by providing expert guidance on legislation, risk management, and safe systems of work. With a strong focus on compliance and continuous improvement, you’ll help embed a proactive safety culture across the organisation.

What you’ll be doing

  • Conducting regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards and enforce corrective actions.
  • Reviewing and advising on RAMS for high‑risk activities such as excavation, confined space entry, and working near live gas assets.
  • Leading or supporting incident investigations, identifying root causes, and sharing lessons learned.
  • Delivering safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks to ensure site teams understand their responsibilities.
  • Promoting a positive safety culture through active engagement with contractors and field teams.
  • Advising on health and safety requirements during project planning and mobilisation.
  • Monitoring contractor performance and escalating concerns where necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate safety documentation, including inspection reports, training logs, and audit findings.
  • Supporting strategic safety initiatives, including behavioural safety campaigns and ISO 45001 inspections.
  • Managing your own workload with autonomy, adapting to business demands and delivering against key performance indicators.
About you

You’ll be proactive and use your safety knowledge to improve standards and drive cultural change. You’ll thrive in high‑risk environments and be confident engaging with teams at all levels. As a self‑starter, you’ll have the abilities to manage multiple priorities across different sites and bring a collaborative approach to problem‑solving and continuous improvement.
