Job summary

A leading engineering firm is looking for an experienced GIS professional in Manchester to manage GIS implementation in tunnelling construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess a relevant degree and extensive knowledge of the ESRI ArcGIS Suite, along with strong web-mapping skills. Responsibilities include ensuring execution plans for GIS are implemented effectively and promoting geospatial workflows. This position is essential to create sustainable projects aligned with the company's climate neutrality goals.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the implementation of GIS on the projects.
  • Ensure GIS Execution Plan is implemented by the projects and subcontractors.
  • Lead the development, deployment and maintenance of Web‑GIS platforms and Mobile‑GIS Apps.
  • Manage data correctly and efficiently to show up-to-date versions.

Skills

Experience of the ESRI ArcGIS Suite and Geographic Data Management
Competency in web-mapping and Internet-based GIS solutions
Fluent in the use of standard Microsoft Office applications

Education

  • Experience of the ESRI ArcGIS Suite and Geographic Data Management.
  • Experience with WebGIS such as ArcGIS for Portal / ArcGIS Online.
  • Competency in web-mapping and Internet-based GIS solutions.
  • Ability to deliver high quality technical specifications and documentation.
  • Fluent in the use of standard Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in working with, editing and loading to databases.
  • Experience of working within a large infrastructure project environment.
  • Awareness of projections and transformations.
Your contribution to our company
  • Managing the implementation of GIS on the projects, including management of the project’s ArcGIS Enterprise System.
  • Ensure that the GIS Execution Plan is implemented by the projects and its subcontractors/supply chain where required.
  • Lead with the development, deployment and maintenance of the Web‑GIS platforms and Mobile‑GIS Apps.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of 3D GIS.
  • Manage data correctly and efficiently – ensure that the most up‑to‑date versions of data are shown on maps / issued at any given time.
  • Work closely with the different GIS end users, engineers and project teams to identify problems and provide input, advice and implementation.
  • Work with and support GIS technicians and BIM coordinators to maximise value from their outputs and investigate innovative ways to apply geospatial solutions.
  • Capture and maintain a register of GIS data usage around the project and seek opportunities to deploy GIS.
  • Promote GIS Services to the project.
  • Identify and implement the most appropriate and efficient geospatial workflows and processes.
  • Metadata Creation and Management.
