About The Role

Job Title: Foreman

Location: Inverness

Balfour Beatty is delivering HMP Highland, Scotland’s first net‑zero prison—a new £209 million, 18,500m² facility in Inverness designed to operate using renewable energy sources such as ground‑source heat pumps.

HMP Highland will replace the existing Inverness Prison and provide capacity for 200 people, marking the first new prison in the Highlands, Islands and Moray region in more than a century. As part of its commitment to local communities, Balfour Beatty will invest £60 million with local suppliers and create jobs, apprenticeships, and training opportunities throughout the build.

The project includes two interconnected buildings, modern infrastructure, and the use of modular construction to reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiency.

What you'll be doing
Health, Safety & Environment
  • Knowing what safety excellence looks like and communicating the safety message.
  • Actively engage with the customer to understand and deliver their key objectives.
  • Promoting Sustainable Solutions and environmental compliance around all operation.
  • Accountable for RAMs, procedures and SSOW in place for their section of work.
  • Management of plant movements, sign‑offs, checklists and specifications under company requirements/systems.
  • Support accident investigation with the HSE team.
  • Own and deliver daily DABS briefings.
Production Control
  • Understand project plans and schedules, to have the ability to plan short and medium schedules that beat the delivery programme, with personal input on the estimation/resource required (labour, materials, time).
  • To manage and implement their schedules/programmes within the project scheme, including the short‑term programmes.
  • Own and manage sections of work ensuring subcontractors achieve their production & contractual obligations with direct competent decision‑making that can be validated by line management.
  • Implement short interval control progress records that are commercial and contractually viable.
Logistics
  • The ability to instigate effective logistics with subcontractors and other members of the BB Project team.
  • Resolve conflicts of logic to ensure the responsible works are successful with short‑ and long‑term logistical planning that is in sync with their schedule/programme.
  • Break a project down into its elements and analyse each element for its project‑specific logistical requirements.
  • Understand and ownership of sequence and phasing.
  • Understand plant and lifting requirements for tasks under their responsibility.
Quality & Technical
  • Participate with the management of internal/external design and quality team/consultant/customer to meet project deadlines.
  • Technically foresee, identify, and conclude design errors/deficiencies.
  • Lead in the technical delivery of Quality Assurance.
  • Identify and manage quality issues and NCRs from cradle to grave to ensure they are technically accurate, to specification, stopping and demanding re‑works where appropriate.
  • Understand and contribute to the development and application of building safety and fire safety strategies, practices, and technological systems in buildings. Taking ownership of the management of installation and compliance.
  • Being responsible for and confident in approving and signing off works.
  • Clear understanding of hold point and handover requirements throughout the construction cycle.
Commercial
  • Understand the commercial implications and drivers within the construction process and incorporate these into decision‑making.
  • Build and understand scopes (project and supply chain) as well as understand the contractual obligation for their element of work both up and downstream.
  • Identify procurement requirements and commercial impact of delays, with effective records and management culpability.
  • Support to commercial team with accurate site records and backup during any disputes.
  • Ability to process additional works and support BB position (day works).
