The Food Trader is responsible for sourcing, buying, and selling food products to achieve profitability targets and maintain strong supplier and customer relationships. This role requires strong commercial acumen, negotiation skills, and an in-depth understanding of global food markets, logistics, and pricing trends.
Buy and sell food products to meet volume and margin targets.
Negotiate pricing, contracts, and payment terms with suppliers and customers.
Monitor and manage market risk, currency fluctuations, and supply chain variables.
Market Analysis:
Track market trends, competitor activity, and global supply-demand dynamics.
Analyse data to identify trading opportunities and optimise portfolio performance.
Prepare regular market and performance reports for management.
Relationship Management:
Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers, producers, distributors, and customers.
Attend trade shows, industry events, and supplier visits to build market intelligence.
Ensure excellent customer service and timely communication across all trading activities.
Operational Coordination:
Work closely with logistics, quality control, and finance teams to ensure smooth execution of trades.
Proven experience in food trading, commodities, or B2B food sales (3-5+ years preferred).
Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
Deep understanding of the UK or global food markets, supply chains, and pricing structures.
Commercially driven with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
