Qualifications

  • Active registration on the IFSM National Fire Risk Assessor Register.
  • Minimum two years' experience in fire safety role, ideally in housing or care.
  • Experience delivering fire safety training within an organisation.

Fire Safety Advisor
  • Location: Home Based - Remote
  • Salary: £30,000 (£50,000 pro rata)
  • Hours: 21 Hours a week
  • Contract: Part Time / Permanent

We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Fire Safety Advisor to join our Health & Safety Team and play a key role in developing and promoting a strong fire safety culture across our nationwide portfolio of housing and care services.

About the Role

As our Fire Safety Advisor, you will be Abbeyfield Living Society ’s expert resource on all matters relating to fire safety. You’ll work with colleagues across Property, Operations, Health & Safety and external partners to ensure our homes remain safe, compliant and aligned with best practice.

You will:

  • Develop, maintain and review Abbeyfield Living Society's fire safety policies, fire management arrangements and fire risk assessments.
  • Undertake on-site Fire Risk Assessments, fire door surveys, fire safety audits and inspections.
  • Provide informed, practical advice to colleagues at all levels, from operational teams to Senior Leadership.
  • Investigate fire-related incidents, reporting findings and recommending improvements.
  • Deliver fire safety training for staff across the organisation.
  • Liaise with Fire Authorities, contractors, and professional bodies to support continual improvement.
  • Monitor legislation, guidance and sector best practice to keep Abbeyfield aligned with the latest standards.
  • Mentor colleagues within the Health & Safety team to build organisational fire safety competence.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence fire safety practices across a diverse, multi-site organisation and help protect residents, staff and property.

About You
  • Active registration on the IFSM National Fire Risk Assessor Register (Intermediate level).
  • NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent.
  • Strong evidence of CPD.
  • Proven experience completing Fire Risk Assessments and fire door surveys.
  • Skilled at managing a varied workload and working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience delivering fire or H&S training within an organisation.
  • Ability to analyse data and produce clear, meaningful reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a similar fire safety role (ideally in the housing or care sector).
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Full, current UK driving licence.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or other recognised H&S qualification.
  • Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety.
  • PTLLS or other teaching/training qualification.
  • Experience in the housing or care sector.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a comparable role.
