Job Description

You are invited to register your interest in getting involved in the Area 14 Maintenance & Response (M&R) contract.

CHC is a joint venture between Costain and Jacobs and holds the Area 14 M&R contract until July 2028 with National Highways.

CHC provides maintenance and response services for the Strategic Road Network in Area 14, covering motorways and trunk roads in Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham, and North Yorkshire.

Responsibilities

The area is set to expand with the addition of new road sections: the A69 trunk road in 2026, followed by the A19 along with other associated trunk roads in 2027.

• Maintenance – performs routine and reactive maintenance, including cyclical and defect rectification.
• Response – provides severe weather and incident response.
• Technology – maintains roadside technology.
• Traffic Management – provides traffic management for its own activities and for others working on the network.
• Lighting – maintenance and operation.
• Vehicle Restraint Systems – upkeep and compliance.
• Soft estate – cleaning and upkeep.
• Sweeping & cleaning – road surface maintenance.
• Drainage – ensuring functionality.
• Traffic signs – installation and maintenance.
• Scheme works – coordination of project scheme work.
