The Role

Join the Eastern Region Special Operation Unit’s (ERSOU) Regional Economic Crime Unit (RECU) and play a vital role in tackling serious and organised crime across the Eastern Region. Our team of accredited Financial Investigators work at the forefront of asset recovery, ensuring crime does not pay. We have one current vacancy within the Proceeds of Crime Unit (POCU) based at Newmarket, Suffolk. Any successful candidates who are board‑passed will be considered for projected future vacancies which could be based at either Newmarket, Suffolk or Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

As a Financial Investigator In The RECU, You Will
  • Provide specialist financial investigative support to serious and organised crime investigations at force or regional level.
  • Conduct asset recovery investigations to disrupt criminality and be at the forefront of using all available powers to recover assets under the Proceeds Of Crime Act 2002 and related legislation.
  • Work with a high caseload of both criminal and civil investigations.
  • Present evidence in court and engage with legal representatives to ensure effective management of investigations and hearings.

This is a demanding role where you’ll work with minimal supervision, manage a high workload, and make quick, well‑judged decisions. What We’re Looking For
  • Ideally, full or partial NCA Financial Investigator accreditation (including Confiscator Parts 2, 5 & 8).
  • Strong knowledge of POCA 2002 and all related legislation.
  • Comprehensive report writing and IT skills (especially Excel).
  • Inquisitive, decisive, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and tactful communication.
  • Willingness to participate in an on‑call rota for out‑of‑hours financial enquiries (currently one shift every 10 weeks).

You’ll be primarily based at either our Stevenage or Newmarket hub, with potential to work from other ERSOU hubs. We support agile working – some tasks can be completed remotely from home or other designated sites. Your designated place of work can be considered as part of the recruitment process and can be discussed in advance with the contact point named in this advert.

Created in 2010, ERSOU is funded by the seven police forces that make up the eastern region, with Bedfordshire Police being the lead force. ERSOU is the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, that oversees and delivers a regional level response to Serious and Organised Crime, and Counter Terrorism Policing for the Forces in the Eastern Region. ERSOU is made up of both Officers and Police Staff from across the entire region and works closely with the 7 Forces and National Partners. Vetting

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development Vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. The Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.
