Electrician (Multi Skilled Engineer)

Location: G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services – Oakhill (Children) Secure Training Centre (STC), Milton Keynes

Salary: £38,000 per annum plus call out allowance* (see details below)

Employment type: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week)

About Us

G4S Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC) cares for children aged 12 to 18 years who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The children may be vulnerable and challenging, with a wide range of complex social and emotional needs. We provide a secure and stable environment to support them in developing life skills and addressing previous behaviours, aiming to support change and learning.

About The Role

We are looking for a full‑time Electrician to undertake planned and reactive electrical maintenance on assets and services to maintain a safe and decent environment across the Centre. You will work within the FM team to meet operational and business Facility Management requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate within planned maintenance procedures for assets safely and effectively
  • Deal effectively and safely with breakdowns and damage to assets
  • Write maintenance reports and technical procedures for Building Maintenance Activities
  • Assist in training and development of other maintenance/technical staff involved in site maintenance activities
  • Carry out maintenance inspection and reactive repairs to heating, water, ventilation, electrical, mechanical and security equipment
  • Diagnose faults on all mechanical and electrical support systems and rectify where necessary
  • Follow detailed drawings and operational maintenance manuals to carry out planned maintenance, routine inspections, and reactive repairs
  • Assist in developing maintenance routines, procedures, risk assessments, and technical records
  • Work with other craft‑qualified, semi‑skilled and non‑skilled maintenance staff to develop cross‑skilling and cover all levels of maintenance activities on a teamwork basis
  • Participate in emergency call‑out arrangements and provide cover where necessary during sickness absence periods
  • Carry out maintenance activities to assist in project and improvement development works, offering alternatives to improve effectiveness of site operation, and review current legislation/regulations within qualification levels, competence, training and experience
About You

The ideal candidate will have proven experience as an Electrician and be fully qualified within an electrical engineering discipline (Level 3 NVQ or equivalent). You must be flexible, adaptable and able to deal with ever‑changing scenarios. Strong organisational and communication skills and experience working within a fast‑paced environment are essential.

In addition, you will receive a call out allowance of £100.00 standby, £85.00 call out and £20.00 per hour for any hours worked over 4 hours.

Security and Legal Requirements

This role is subject to a checkable history and strict vetting standards set by G4S and the Youth Custody Services and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. You must be eligible to work in the UK, resident here for a minimum of 3 years, and provide full details of your employment and education history for the past 5 years as part of the security screening process. All employees are required to hold a current Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Scheme) Certificate.
