JDR is recruiting for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to work in a manufacturing site in Taunton, Somerset.
Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical and electronic systems, including motors, PLCs, sensors, control panels, and automated suture production machines.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical faults on all machines to minimise production downtime.
- Maintain and repair equipment such as braiding machines, extrusion lines, coating units, winders and other production machinery.
- Equipment Installation & Commissioning
- Support the installation, testing, and commissioning of new production equipment, machinery and electrical panels.
- Ensure proper wiring, grounding, and calibration according to engineering standards.
- Facility Electrical Installation, Inspection, Testing and Certification
- Handle the design and installation of new and replacement electrical systems as per the IET Wiring Regulation - Requirements for Electrical Installations (latest edition).
- The testing, inspection and certification of all new or replacement electrical systems.
- Maintain all inspection and testing certification held on a tablet using 'EasyCert' - Electrical Software.
- Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with GMP, ISO 13485, and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate equipment records, calibration logs, and maintenance documentation.
- Able to carry out periodic testing including site emergency lighting and PAT testing.
- Be aware of company policies, Veeva Quality Documentation, be familiar and understand company values.
- Participate in internal and external audits if required.
- Adhere to all health and safety rules, wear the required PPE and observe the site Method Statements and Safe Working Methods.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and improve energy efficiency.
- Collaborate with other teams (Quality, Production, Validation and R&D) to improve machine performance and product quality.
- Participate in training for company or trade requirements, if required, on new equipment or techniques.
- Other
- Work as part of the maintenance and engineering team and contribute in raising its profile.
- Support engineering and company projects focused on upgrades and process optimisation.
- May be required to attend callout to site on occasions or work outside of normal hours.
About you
- Minimum qualification: BS 7671 18th Edition
- Required certifications: C&G 2391-50/51, C&G 2394, or equivalent
- Experience: minimum of 5 years of electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in medical devices or similarly regulated industries is preferred
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, PLCs (Siemens/Allen-Bradley), HMIs, VFDs, and control circuits is an advantage
- Experience with automation and motion control systems
- Ability to read electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams
- Familiarity with cleanroom equipment and medical device production machinery is an advantage
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy production environment
