Job description

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide when it comes to employee engagement and ranked as a Top 50 UK Employer on Glassdoor. Join us in making a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Join Our Team as a Mechanical Maintainer – Bioresources (Nottinghamshire Area)

Are you ready to make a real impact in renewable energy and environmental sustainability? As a Mechanical Maintainer, you’ll be a vital part of a high-performing team that supports sludge treatment, green energy generation, and the production of high-quality biosolids. Your work will help Severn Trent deliver on its carbon reduction commitments and maintain strong relationships with the agricultural community.

You’ll be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment across our Bioresources sites. Your role will ensure that all systems run efficiently and safely, supporting the production of biomethane gas, electricity, and biosolids in line with environmental regulations and industry standards.

Collaboration is key in this role. You’ll work closely with internal teams across Bioresources and Wastewater Recycling to help meet site compliance and regulatory goals. We’ll support your development through a structured competency framework, with clear pathways from foundation to skilled and expert levels—each reflected in your pay progression. Once you reach skilled level, you’ll also have the opportunity to broaden your expertise through multi‑skilling.

We’re looking for someone who’s curious, courageous, and committed to doing the right thing. Problem‑solving is part of the day‑to‑day, so a willingness to understand how things work—and why—is essential. You’ll also take part in a standby rota, with further details provided during the recruitment process.

You’ll be working across several key sites in Area 7: Stoke Bardolph (Nottingham), Derby, Wanlip (Leicester), and Clay Mills (Burton on Trent).

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • You will maintain and repair a wide range of mechanical systems including pumps, compressors, motors, gearboxes, steam boilers, centrifuges, dosing systems and more, ensuring they run safely and efficiently.
  • You’ll carry out hands‑on tasks such as fabrication, welding, lubrication, and operating workshop machinery like lathes and drill presses.
  • Diagnose faults, perform inspections, and update technical drawings while applying tools like Failure Mode Effective Analysis (FMEA) to improve reliability.
  • You will take ownership of maintenance tasks from ordering parts to installing assets, and support the design and build of new processes.
  • You will monitor treatment systems using SCADA, respond to alarms, and ensure compliance with lifting operations and safety regulations.
  • You’ll have a strong understanding of health and safety in high‑risk environments, with experience maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment.
  • You possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a proactive approach to problem‑solving and continuous improvement.
  • You will have experience managing contractors and suppliers, with good communication and collaboration skills.
  • You’ll be comfortable using IT tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and able to maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • You will have a NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. Some experience with steam boilers (BOAS O and or M) is preferable.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.
