Birmingham: The Harborne Hospital
Full time: Monday – Sunday, 37.5 hours per week
Shift times: Flexible to work long days, nights and weekends on internal rotation
Permanent Contract | Salary: Competitive (DOE) plus 9% shift allowance

We are now seeking a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our 12‑bed multi‑speciality surgical ward, caring for patients undergoing procedures in GI, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Breast, Spinal, Liver and other surgical specialties. Responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality personal care, assisting patients with daily activities such as washing, dressing, mobility and nutrition.
• Monitor and record observations under the supervision of registered nurses.
• Support patients in preparing for surgery and recovery.
• Maintain a clean and safe ward environment.
• Assist with equipment and stock management.
• Respond promptly to patient needs, ensuring they feel safe, comfortable and supported at all times.
• Work closely with the nursing team to follow care plans and uphold patient dignity.
• Communicate warmly, respectfully and reassuringly with patients and their families.

Qualifications

• Acute hospital experience gained within the NHS or private healthcare sector.
• A recognised Healthcare Certificate or equivalent care qualification.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a fast‑paced surgical environment.
• Confidence in undertaking clinical observations accurately and safely.
• Competence in supporting patients with mobility and manual handling using safe techniques.
• A compassionate, patient‑centred approach with the ability to maintain dignity and respect at all times.
• A positive attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
