We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Swinfen Hall, working as a Foundation English & Maths Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Swinfen Hall is a category C prison for young adult and adult men located near the village of Swinfen in Staffordshire. The key aim of the prison is to provide education, vocational training, and comprehensive support services to prepare inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification – with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Hold a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) or commit to work towards within a specified timeframe (Applies to Teachers in YOI only)
  • Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have previous track record showing achievement of quality targets
  • Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Can motivate and enthuse learners
  • Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets
  • Demonstrate positive team working
