Job Title: Clinical Psychologist – Children & Adolescents

Department: Child & Adolescent Residential Services / Psychology Services

Location: Remote or Face-to-Face

Job Purpose: To provide high‑quality psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence‑based therapeutic interventions for children and young people experiencing emotional, behavioural, developmental, and mental health difficulties. The role includes working collaboratively with families, schools, social care, and other professionals to promote positive mental health outcomes suitable for a residential setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments using standardised tools, clinical interviews, and behavioural observations.
  • Develop individualised case formulations and treatment plans.
  • Deliver evidence‑based therapeutic interventions (CBT, ACT, DBT, systemic therapy, trauma‑focused approaches).
  • Work with registered manager – owner to support behaviour management, attachment, and emotional development.
  • Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely clinical records in accordance with professional guidelines.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, case conferences, and safeguarding discussions.
  • Offer psychological insight to support integrated care planning.
  • Offer training sessions for staff on topics such as emotional regulation, autism, ADHD, trauma, and resilience.
Research & Service Development
  • Contribute to service development initiatives and quality improvement projects.
  • Use outcome measures and service data to evaluate effectiveness and improve clinical practice.
  • Stay updated with current research, clinical guidelines, and best practices.
  • Qualifications & Requirements

    Essential:

    • Degree or Masters in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent recognised qualification).
    • Registration with HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
    • Experience working with children, young people, and families.
    • Competence in a range of psychological assessment tools and therapeutic approaches.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report‑writing skills.
    • Ability to manage a small but often complex caseload and work under pressure.
    • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and child protection procedures.

    Desirable:

    • Experience within CAMHS, paediatrics, or educational settings.
    • Training in specialist interventions (e.g., trauma‑focused CBT, family therapy).
    • Experience of working with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and ADHD.
    • Experience providing supervision where necessary.
    • Research or service evaluation experience.
