Overview
This fully remote Instructional Design Consultant role is part of an Information Technology team, focusing on enhancing software and training experiences within a healthcare context. The consultant will analyze user requirements, develop training plans, and support software implementations for EPIC and other clinical applications, collaborating with technical staff and end-users to ensure effective adoption and improved patient care delivery.
Primary Responsibilities
- Training Strategy & Development: Analyze user needs and business requirements to design, develop, and implement training strategies and plans for EPIC and other clinical applications.
- Content Creation & Delivery: Create engaging training materials (user guides, job aids, e-learning modules, presentations, facilitator guides) and conduct training sessions for end-users and healthcare professionals.
- Software Implementation Support: Collaborate with IT teams and project managers to support software implementations, feature rollouts, and system upgrades, ensuring smooth transitions and user adoption.
- Stakeholder Communication: Act as a liaison between technical teams and end-users, translating complex information and gathering feedback for continuous improvement.
- Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve user experience and operational efficiency through enhanced training programs and system utilization.
- Technical Troubleshooting Assistance: Provide first-level support and work with IT for technical troubleshooting related to implemented systems and training processes.
Skills & Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree preferred, with 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Instructional Design, Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics) is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in instructional design, training development, or a related role within a healthcare IT setting.
- Proven experience with developing and delivering training for Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, specifically EPIC applications.
- Experience in supporting software implementations and system rollouts.
Required Skills:
- Instructional Design Expertise: Proficient in adult learning principles, ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) model, or similar methodologies.
- EPIC Application Certification: Mandatory certification in at least one EPIC module (e.g., Cadence, Prelude, ClinDoc, StAR).
- Training Material Development: Ability to create diverse training content (e-learning modules, facilitator guides, user manuals, job aids).
- Communication & Presentation Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication for clear technical explanations.
- Healthcare Systems Knowledge: Working knowledge of healthcare systems and workflows and their impact on patient care.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with learning management systems (LMS) for content deployment and tracking.
- Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate).

Salary Range
Based on mid-level experience and remote, healthcare IT specialization, a typical range could be $70,000 - $95,000 USD annually. Final range depends on partner company and candidate qualifications.
