Job summary

A leading environmental services company in Scarborough is looking for a Health and Safety Apprentice. This role supports the SERE team in promoting a safe working environment, assisting with risk assessments, audits, and compliance with HSE regulations. Working closely with Schneider Electric, apprentices will gain hands-on experience while pursuing a recognized HSE qualification. Applicants should have an interest in health and safety and possess strong communication skills. A minimum of 5 GCSEs is required.

Role Mission

As a Health and Safety Apprentice you will support the SERE team in promoting and maintaining a safe and compliant working environment across the site. This apprenticeship offers hands‑on experience in health, safety and environmental management while working towards a recognised HSE qualification.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support health, safety and environmental processes across the site.
  • Assist with risk assessments, audits and hazard identification.
  • Help maintain safety records and contribute to training sessions.
  • Monitor energy use, manage waste streams and support sustainability projects.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure compliance with UK HSE regulations.
Training

During your apprenticeship you will receive two different types of training.

‘On‑the‑job’ training will be delivered by Schneider Electric as your employer. You’ll receive training and supervision to help you perform the job you’ve been hired to do. This will include skills and knowledge that fall outside of the apprenticeship but are needed for the job role. As well as providing ‘on‑the‑job’ training we also support you in additional ways to ensure your success.

Types of support will include:
  • A comprehensive induction
  • Mentoring or regular one‑to‑one guidance
  • Social enrichment and networking opportunities
  • Performance reviews
  • Mental health and wellbeing support
  • Feedback opportunities

‘Off‑the‑job’ training is delivered by one of our carefully selected Training Providers during your normal working hours. You will spend at least 20% (average 6 hours per week) of your working hours completing ‘off‑the‑job’ training. This is protected time and is a requirement for apprenticeship delivery. The training will teach you the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standard so you can achieve occupational competence.

Work Pattern

37.5 hours per week to be worked from Monday to Friday. Exact start and finish times will be agreed upon with your line manager. Some of these hours will be allocated to off‑the‑job training as part of your Apprenticeship Programme.

Monday to Thursday: 07:55 to 16:25
Friday 07:55 to 13:25

  • Basic IT skills for maintaining records and documentation
  • Understanding of UK HSE regulations
  • Interest in sustainability and environmental initiatives
Education

A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), at Grade 4 or above including Maths, English and a science‑related subject.

Previous Experience Required

No pre‑requisite experience required.
