Purpose of the Position
The MEP Manager has overall responsibility for the management of all aspects of the relevant MEP package or packages. This includes design, procurement, contract governance, pre‑construction, mobilisation, commercial aspects and delivery through to handover with a defect‑free goal. They will be required to ensure that safety is a priority, in all aspects of the package management process and operate in close consultation with the necessary stakeholders and departments, both internally and externally.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the tendering process to provide a compliant bid that meets the ER’s.
- Provide expertise in providing alternative VE bids.
- Assist in scheduling developing detailed CPM schedules for all MEP installation activities, including cost and resource loading.
- Assist the PM on the technical submission developing any logistics relating to plant rooms, heavy strip out, crane lifts etc.
- Provide commissioning programmes on the back of the tender programme including witnessing schedules.
- Review all statutory & third‑party requirements and provide a commentary review for the Technical Submittal.
- Review any BREEAM and NABERS trackers and provide a commentary, ensuring the bid is compliant and any VE or alternatives comply or improve our bid.
Construction Delivery
- Manage all elements of the defined MEP package, ensure all aspects detailed in the Pre‑Contract, Contract Governance, Mobilisation, Construction, Delivery and Handover sections are fully adhered to.
- Manage the relevant sub‑contractors, to ensure full compliance to these requirements.
- Ensure any contract notices including early warnings, as required under the contract, are issued or responded to in a timely manner.
- Promote and deliver a collaborative environment with all members of the team including stakeholders and the supply chain.
- Establish and maintain site organisation and facilitate effective communications between the Employer’s representatives.
- Ensure all reports and information defined in the Sub‑Contract works are issued in the time frames stipulated, including providing the necessary package narrative for client reports.
- Ensure all relevant permits and pre‑construction documentation are issued within a timely manner for approval ensuring the programme start date is not compromised.
Programme, Planning & Coordination
- Lead on all aspects of the Programme and Production Control process, associated with your package responsibility.
- Take part in decisions affecting cost and programme, such that issues are considered essential for the overall project.
- Assist in the preparation of all programmes, understanding critical path activities, system constraints and interdependencies.
Design Evaluation & Technical Oversight
- Review design information ensuring it is compliant with Client requirements.
- Review and comment on all design information, to ensure it is buildable and commissionable.
- Take Ownership in the development of projects, ensuring this strategy is at the heart of the design concept through to detail.
- Contribute to the risk and opportunity process.
- Ensure all works undertaken on site, are done so in a safe manner, carrying out weekly health & safety tours and record all issues.
Health, Safety & Quality Management
- Ensuring robust method statements, risk assessments are in place and approved, prior to the commencement of any works.
- Fully adhere to all aspects of the Technical Assurance process.
- Lead on all aspects of quality, associated with your package responsibility, ensuring each handover date, or area completion is achieved snag‑free.
- Ensure works are completed in time.
Experience and knowledge
- Relevant MEP, Building Services, Mechanical or Electrical qualification (HNC/HND, NVQ is required)
- CSCS card (or ability to obtain one)
- SMSTS or SSSTS (mandatory)
- Training in health & safety, commissioning, or project management is desirable
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple MEP activities.
- Confident coordinating subcontractors and specialist trades on site.
- Ability to read, understand, and review MEP drawings and technical information.
- Good communication skills, able to work with site teams and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem‑solving ability with a proactive approach.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and basic project management software.
- Strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet programme deadlines.
- Capable of supporting design reviews and technical submittals.
