We are seeking a skilled and experienced Marine Electrician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems on marine vessels around the south coast. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with marine electrical systems, a strong understanding of safety standards, and the ability to work effectively in shipyard, dockside, and onboard environments.
It is a mandatory requirement of this role that UK Security clearance is achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair AC and DC electrical systems on marine vessels
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults in propulsion, navigation, communication, and auxiliary systems
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals
- Install and service components and equipment such as batteries, chargers, generators, alternators, and shore power systems
- Maintain and repair equipment such as navigation, lighting, control, and alarm systems
- Ensure compliance with marine safety regulations, electrical codes, and company standards
- Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure system reliability
- Use diagnostic tools and testing equipment safely and accurately
- Document work performed, materials used, and system changes
- Collaborate with engineers, shipyard staff, and other trades as needed
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Marine Electrician or in a similar marine electrical role
- Strong knowledge of marine electrical systems, including AC/DC power distribution
- Ability to read and understand electrical diagrams and schematics
- Familiarity with marine safety standards and regulations (ABYC, NEC, or equivalent)
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work in confined spaces and variable weather conditions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with commercial vessels, yachts, or military craft
- Knowledge of PLCs, automation, or advanced navigation systems
