Production Planner
April / May 2026

Responsibilities
  • The Production Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating and optimizing production schedules to ensure efficient operations and timely delivery of products. This role requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.
  • Develop, maintain, and adjust production schedules to meet customer orders, forecasted demand, and inventory targets. Ensure schedules are realistic and achievable.
  • Continuously monitor production processes, identify and address issues or bottlenecks, and adjust schedules to minimize downtime and ensure timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with procurement, inventory management, production, and quality control teams to ensure the availability of materials, resources, and information needed for production.
  • Analyze production data, performance metrics, and KPIs to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions and recommendations.
  • Coordinate with the quality control team to ensure all products meet established quality standards. Address quality issues promptly to prevent disruptions.
  • Prepare and present detailed production reports to management, highlighting key metrics, production status, and any issues or risks. Provide actionable insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Implement and maintain production planning software and tools, ensuring they are used effectively to streamline planning processes and improve accuracy.
  • Participate in and lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing process efficiency, reducing waste, and optimizing resource utilization.
  • Ensure all planning activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards. Promote a safe and healthy work environment.
Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  • Education: APICS certification or similar qualification in Supply Chain Management or related field is preferred
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Production Planning or a similar role.
  • Skills:
  • Strong understanding of production planning and inventory management principles.
  • Proficiency in production planning software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.

About Our Project In Port Of Nigg, Highland

Sumitomo Electric is one of the leading global manufacturers of state-of-the-art high-end electricity transmission cables, up to and including 525kV HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) cable. The new factory at Nigg, with investment value announced by the Scottish Government of £350M, will make a significant contribution towards realisation of the UK Net Zero Target by contributing to critical electricity transmission infrastructure to connect and deliver renewable energy, including offshore wind, to UK consumers and beyond. The factory will create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands, with maximum utilisation of the local supply chain for production of cables and construction of transmission cable systems. Sumitomo Electric has commenced construction of its state-of-the-art subsea transmission cable factory in the Scottish Highlands. The factory will supply critical elements for the reinforcement of the UK electricity transmission grid and for connecting renewable energy production facilities to the grid.
