About the Role
The Power Transmission & Distribution business is experiencing significant growth, and an opportunity has arisen for a skilled Planning Manager to join a dedicated project team. This role is pivotal in providing strategic planning and scheduling leadership across flagship construction projects, driving efficiency and supporting successful project delivery.
As Planning Manager, you will
- Lead Strategic Planning and Scheduling
- Oversee multiple construction projects, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives while optimising timelines and resource allocation.
- Drive Best Practice
- Implement and promote robust planning standards across the construction portfolio.
- Mentor and Develop Teams
- Provide guidance and support to the planning team to enable high performance and successful outcomes.
Core Responsibilities
- Scope Identification & Contract Requirements – Define planning scope, constraints, and factors influencing programme delivery.
- Tender Development – Support the adoption of efficient design, procurement, and construction strategies to ensure successful delivery.
- Planning Processes – Oversee development of key deliverables including programmes, reports, and presentations.
- Contract Stage Guidance – Ensure alignment with commercial and planning procedures throughout project delivery.
- Critical Path Analysis – Assess critical paths and ensure corrective actions are implemented where required.
- Resource Management – Effectively manage labour, equipment, and materials.
- Contract Management – Oversee subcontractor and supplier programme obligations.
- Data Analysis – Monitor KPIs, identify deviations, and support continuous improvement.
- Training & Development – Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to planning staff.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Proven leadership and mentoring ability
- Proficiency in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Time Location software, and MS Office
- Extensive understanding of construction project management principles
- Expertise in change management processes
- Experience in developing and managing complex project schedules
- Proficiency in risk management including TRA and QSRA
- Sound financial acumen – budgeting, cost estimation, and Earned Value Management
Required Experience
- Significant experience planning and managing large-scale, complex construction projects
- Demonstrable ability to manage and lead planning resources
- Strong track record in managing client, subcontractor, and stakeholder relationships
