Reference: DP5643
Location: Chichester
Hours per week: 1 evening in the week after day service (days/times TBD). Occasional overnight. Weekend daytime (TBD).
We are looking for a friendly, proactive Personal Assistant to support a very social young man in his twenties who loves spending time with others and getting out into the community. He thrives in group settings and enjoys activities such as bowling, social outings, and organised events with friends.
He is a keen cyclist and rides his tricycle most days, often covering several miles with encouragement. This is something we would love to see expanded into regular outings from our home.
While he hasn’t done many cinema trips in the past due to a younger‑style interest in media (e.g. CBeebies, Peter Rabbit), his recent enjoyment of theatre outings has shown that his ability to engage and concentrate has grown significantly.
The main aim of this role is to give him opportunities to spend time away from his parents—allowing them some respite—while supporting him to meet new people, try activities, and build confidence with different social groups. He attends a day service five days a week and regularly socialises with friends via Zoom in the evenings. Support would typically be one evening per week after day service, occasional weekend daytime support, and potentially overnight stays if the right arrangement develops, to further promote independence.
He can be anxious when trying new activities, so a gentle, encouraging approach is essential. With the right support, he becomes more confident and engaged. This role will play an important part in developing his independence and preparing him for future endeavours.
Some of his friends spend evenings and occasional overnights at the PA’s home, so openness to this type of arrangement would be highly desirable.
He is largely independent with personal care, but he can be easily distracted. He benefits from someone who can calmly keep him focused, offer prompts when needed, and provide positive encouragement.
This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys being social, patient, and supportive, and who values helping someone grow in confidence and independence.
