A prominent UK economic development bank is seeking a Senior Manager for its Strategy and Policy team. The role involves developing the bank's strategy to enhance financing for small and medium-sized businesses. The British Business Bank (the Bank) is the UK’s economic development bank dedicated to ensuring finance markets support smaller and medium sized businesses (SMEs) in the UK to start, scale and grow in the UK.
The Bank is at the heart of the government economic growth agenda. From April, we will be embarking on the delivery of our Five-year Strategic Plan to create a step change in financing support for smaller businesses across the UK.
As a Senior Manager within the Strategy and Policy team, you will help develop and deliver the overall strategy for the Bank. You will engage closely with government and industry stakeholders, and help translate government policy priorities into action to support the growth of smaller businesses across the UK. You will work closely with the Bank’s product and front‑office teams to support delivery, proactively undertaking analysis and identifying opportunities to improve SME access to finance. You will also support the Board and Executive Committee in delivering the Bank’s corporate strategy.
Reporting to the Director - Strategy, you will lead work on priority projects with complex challenges, ranging from the delivering support to priority sectors, crowding institutional capital into the UK venture market and tackling structural barriers holding back the potential of smaller businesses in the UK. This will require undertaking comprehensive analysis and research, managing and leading projects through to completion, and delivering presentations to key stakeholders. As a Senior Manager you will collaborate closely with and bring together colleagues across the Bank, from front office product teams to operations, communications and economics teams.
It is essential that you have previous experience of working in a Strategy role and a proven ability to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders. You will be fluent in PowerPoint, Word and Excel and it is desirable that you understand how Government departments work. It would be an advantage to have experienced the development of company, or product, strategy within a Financial Services context, or experienced working within a debt and/or equity environment. You should have an interest in smaller businesses and the challenges they face when accessing finance.
