Job description
Document Composition Consultant

Salary circa £30,000 to £40,000

Location: Norwich/Perth/Bristol/Eastleigh/Sheffield/York/Glasgow

Overview

We’re looking for a motivated and technically minded individual to join our Customer Communications team as a Document Composition Consultant. We welcome both experienced candidates and those at an entry level who have a solid technical foundation and are keen to develop your skills further.

If you’re curious, analytical and enjoy solving problems — and you’re looking to deepen your knowledge of document‑composition technology — this could be a great opportunity for you.

This role suits someone who enjoys detailed, “heads down” technical work but still wants to collaborate with supportive colleagues, contribute ideas and be part of a team that’s shaping how we deliver document changes in a fast moving environment.

A bit about the job

In this technical role, you’ll work with teams across Customer Communications and ICE to understand requirements and support document change activity. You’ll be responsible for building, updating and maintaining document design specifications using Kofax and other composition tools.

Working alongside third party developers, you’ll help deliver accurate, compliant and customer focused communications. You’ll translate business needs into clear technical specifications while ensuring quality, formatting and compliance standards are met. You’ll also troubleshoot issues, manage change in a controlled way and contribute to continuous improvements in how we build documents.

Skills and experience we’re looking for

We’re open to candidates with a range of experience — whether you already have a strong technical background or you’re at an entry level with a good technical foundation and a willingness to learn. The experience listed below is beneficial, but not all areas are essential for those joining at entry level.

  • Preferred experience working with or knowledge of document management or document builder tools (e.g., Kofax, composition engines, template-based systems) to create, update and maintain technical document specifications.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with third party developers and technical teams to deliver accurate, timely document changes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with an ability to troubleshoot issues, identify root causes and work through technical challenges.
  • Ability to translate business or communication requirements into clear, structured technical specifications.
  • Experience working within controlled change environments — including documentation, testing, quality and compliance is an advantage.
  • Comfort working with both technical and non‑technical colleagues.
