The Role

This is a key role working at the core of the internet. As a DNS Engineer, you’ll help run and improve the DNS services that power critical UK infrastructure and government systems. You’ll contribute to service improvements, help design secure, high-performance solutions, and respond quickly to operational issues.

What You'll Be Doing

Supporting and maintaining Nominet’s DNS infrastructure to ensure services remain secure, reliable, and high-performing

Analysing business and technical requirements to design and deliver improvements and new services

Working with other internal teams and external partners to implement and maintain DNS solutions

Acting as an escalation point for operational issues, including participating in the on-call rota

Proactively identifying opportunities to automate processes and improve monitoring and measurement

Responding to incidents and contributing to incident reviews and service improvements

About You

Experience with DNS and DNSSEC operations

Linux skills and experience with at least one DNS software (e.g. BIND, NSD, Unbound, PowerDNS)

Familiarity with Python or a similar scripting language

Able to design and document technical solutions to meet business requirements

Comfortable communicating clearly with technical and non-technical audiences

Experience supporting live production services and responding to incidents

Nice to have:

Experience with Ansible or other automation/configuration tools

Familiarity with modern devops practices, Kubernetes, containerisation and CI/CD pipelines.

Understanding of internet networking, Anycast, and security risks relevant to service providers

  • 2nd stage: Technical interview (60 mins)
  • 3rd stage: Values interview (60 mins)
