Job description

Our client, a specialist construction consultancy operating across London and the South East, is seeking a Director (Designate) – Technical & Project Management to shape, lead and grow their Building Surveying and Project Management sectors. This senior role combines technical construction consultancy expertise, commercial business development and people leadership to drive sustainable growth while embedding the organisation’s quality‑led processes and values. The post will work with clients including developers, property companies, local authorities, housing associations and housebuilders and will report into the Managing Directors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the Building Surveying function, expanding capability, technical expertise and a pipeline of future leaders.
  • Drive client engagement and service delivery, ensuring consistent quality and alignment with the organisation’s QMS.
  • Provide senior technical support to Project Managers on contracts, procurement, dispute avoidance and risk management.
  • Oversee project mobilisation and pre‑contract procedures, establishing delivery teams, procurement strategies and robust contract documentation.
  • Manage post‑contract administration, ensuring timely, accurate instruction handling, certificates, valuations and reporting.
  • Promote digital standards and BIM integration, and champion digital and AI opportunities to improve operational performance.
  • Design and deliver CPD and external engagement programmes, representing the business at presentations, panels and sector initiatives.
  • Support business development and practice management, working with the Managing Directors to grow the sector and improve efficiency, case studies and knowledge resources.
  • Coach and mentor staff, improving contract awareness, negotiation confidence and technical administration across Project Managers, Building Surveyors and graduates.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Minimum 5 years PQE with demonstrable experience in local authority, residential and public sector projects.
  • Proven track record on refurbishment and re‑cladding projects, Project Monitor roles (New Build to Rent), Employers Agent and full contract administration from inception to completion.
  • Recognised authority in contract administration, procurement strategies and risk management, with experience developing procurement frameworks and documentation.
  • Quality focused with a strong understanding of BIM and its integration into workflows and document control.
  • Leadership experience across multi‑disciplinary teams and client levels, with the ability to coach, develop and retain talent.
  • Commercially aware and business development oriented, confident in building client relationships and winning work.
  • Comfortable working within and improving a quality management system and promoting consistent processes across projects.
