Welcome to the Boots Operations Development team– an exciting team at the heart of Boots UK's Central Operations Function. Our aim is to ensure that what we do is, Simpler for Stores, Better for Customers and More Value for Boots. We're focusing on efficient processes and smart technology investments to make our Team Members jobs easier and drive improved KPIs across the whole of the Retail Operation.

What you'll be doing

As a Development Manager, you will be integral to supporting the wider business with technological recommendations and solutions. You will report into the Head of Retail Operations Development, and work alongside numerous business teams, you will support the development and creation of our current & future capabilities.

Part of a dedicated development and implementation team, you will be responsible for identifying future opportunities and managing our current stores technology infrastructure including our current Epos system, Devices and associated policy and processes. Previous projects have included the development of our leaders' device as part of the Mobile Office project, Shelf Checkout development, Cash Accounting process development and consulting on the MyStock stock management processes.

You will be instrumental in driving change to remove complexity and create capacity for store teams to enable them to focus on value adding customer and sales activity.

Key responsibilities
  • Supporting the creation of a pipeline of projects to support the functional ambition – to improve customer availability, reduce process workload and deliver additional stock management capabilities
  • Consultation on behalf of Central Operations on all new technology developments being introduced into stores. An examples would include Till Software development and updates, process changes that impact stores technology, SAP and Dot.com developments that interact with stores
  • Responsibility for initiative delivery involving multiple teams, ensuring effective collaboration and development from start to finish
  • Provide clear and concise updates to senior stakeholders as required for regular status reporting and ad-hoc decision making support.
  • User acceptance testing on all new technology being deployed into Stores
  • Be comfortable where conflicting activity impacts on your time
  • Support a wide cross section of the business with ad hoc requests for information regarding our Technology and process capabilities
What you'll need to have (our must-haves):
Business & Retail Operations Understanding
  • Extensive understanding of store operations, including:
  • Knowledge and experience of our existing Epos System
  • Knowledge and experience of our existing Technology solutions in store i.e. Devices (TC52/53s) and processes
  • Ideally Stores Management experience
  • Awareness of market and technology trends
  • Experience shaping store experience improvements through technology — reducing process friction, improving colleague enablement, and integrating technological solutions & systems.
  • Good working knowledge of internal IT functional processes
Soft Skills and Behaviours
  • Capable of translating between business and technical teams
  • Experienced with legacy constraints and complex stakeholder landscapes
Project Leadership
  • You can connect system changes to business outcomes i.e. Stock Management process and frequencies and impact on workload
  • Proven experience leading projects in a retail environment
  • You can align business objectives (customer experience, operational efficiency, compliance) with technology delivery milestone
  • You can align multiple third parties (POS vendor, systems integrator, payments provider, networking vendor, internal IT)
  • Experience in supporting the definition and management of business cases, Return On Investment, total cost of ownership, and benefits realisation
