Position

Dental Grade NHS – Salaried Dentist – A Contract Permanent Hours (Full time / Part time)

Job Overview

Buckinghamshire Priority Dental Service (BPDS) is looking for enthusiastic and conscientious dentists with excellent interpersonal skills and interests in all fields of dentistry. We are open to considering a full‑time and/or a part‑time Dental Officer based at Brookside Clinic, with options to work on the mobile unit in High Wycombe or at Amersham Health Centre.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful applicant will provide a full range of dental care to all patients accessing the Buckinghamshire Priority Dental Service, including priority groups, special needs children and adults.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessment, diagnosis, and management of urgent and routine dental problems for children and adults
  • Provision of care under inhalation sedation, intravenous sedation and general anaesthetic
  • Delivery of treatment in fixed practice, on mobile units and in domiciliary settings
  • Use of wheelchair tipper and bariatric bench for patients with mobility challenges
  • Participation in epidemiology fieldwork and patient care audits
  • Involvement in training and supervision of junior staff such as Dental Core Trainees

  • Adults and children with severe learning disabilities
  • Adults and children with severe physical disabilities
  • Adults and children with complex medical problems
  • Adults and children with severe mental health problems
  • Children with severe behavioural management problems
  • Adults and children with very severe anxiety and dental phobias (Buckinghamshire only)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)
  • Full registration with the GDC
  • NHS Performer number
Experience
  • Current or recent experience as a dentist with clinical commitment in hospital, salaried or general dental service
  • Ability to diagnose, manage and treat urgent dental problems for both children and adults
  • Clerical experience of using dental software packages
  • Previous experience working in urgent care dental services
  • Understanding of telephone triage and remote consultation (telephone and video)
  • Experience supervising trainees and unqualified staff
  • Experience providing care under general anaesthetic, inhalation sedation and domiciliary care
  • Experience treating patients with additional needs
Knowledge
  • Demonstrable knowledge of cross infection control standards
