We’re seeking an ambitious Data Modeller/Architect to join our growing Data Architecture team at Barclays. You’ll help design, implement and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models that drive business value, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency across a wide range of platforms.
To be successful as a Data Modeller/Architect, you should have experience with:
- Solid experience in data modelling or data architecture, ideally within financial services or large corporates.
- Proficiency with data modelling tools (e.g., Erwin, ER/Studio, PowerDesigner).
- Excellent knowledge of conceptual, logical, and physical modelling techniques.
- Experience with database systems (relational: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL; columnar: Redshift, Snowflake; NoSQL: MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Advanced SQL skills (DDL, DML, performance tuning) and scripting experience (PL/SQL, T-SQL, Python or Shell).
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts (Inmon/Kimball) and ETL tools (e.g., Informatica).
- Cloud platform experience, ideally AWS (S3, Redshift, Glue) and Data Lake implementation.

This role will be located at our Glasgow office.
Purpose of the role
To design, implement, and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models that meet business data/process and technology requirements, by using designs and data strategies across a wide selection of platforms.
Accountabilities
- Analysis and documentation of business requirements to translate them into data models aligned with organisational goals.
- Development and maintenance of data dictionaries and glossaries to define data elements and their usage.
- Analysis and monitoring of data usage patterns to identify opportunities for data optimisation and improvement, in partnership with the Data Base Administrator.
- Strategic architecture definition and product selection.
- Production of logical designs in relevant subject area (technical, data, operational), showing processes, objects, data flows, inputs, stored data and outputs. Identifying common components.
- Implementation of architectures and identification, ownership and resolution of design related issues.
- Definition and documentation of data architecture standards, principles and strategies.
