As a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist working for Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust you will be responsible for ensuring that our service users’ needs are met through the delivery of high quality care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care to older adults requiring specialist inpatient care on Irwell ward.
  • Complete assessments of new admissions, formulate treatment plans, and manage their treatment.
  • Ensure safe discharges back to the community.
  • Lead the multidisciplinary team, fostering positive working relationships.
  • Complete ward rounds throughout the week, providing clear communication and documentation of assessment outcomes and management plans.
  • Provide leadership and training to trainee doctors and medical students placed on Irwell ward.
  • Take an active part in the clinical work of the team and lead the development of the service.
  • Act as the Responsible Clinician for patients admitted to Irwell ward, including those detained under the Mental Health Act.
  • Complete relevant Mental Health Act documentation and capacity assessments.
