Job summary

A growing technology firm in Saffron Walden is seeking a Computer Vision Physicist / Engineer to design optical systems and optimise them for various applications. Candidates should have a degree in Physics or Electronics and ideally a PhD in applied optics, along with significant experience in optical systems for machine vision. The role is fully onsite and candidates must pass security clearance. Competitive salary from £45,000 to £65,000 per annum plus benefits.

Computer Vision Physicist / Engineer

£45,000 – £65,000 per annum (DOE) + Benefits

Saffron Walden (near Cambridge), fully onsite.

Based in offices in Saffron Walden, this expanding tech company utilises AI within their core products. This extends to the use of computer vision for monitoring and tracking. As their next Computer Vision Physicist / Engineer, you’ll deliver projects from concept through design, prototype to product release.

Responsibilities
  • Design optical systems (lenses, mirrors, sensors) and optimise them for VIS, NIR and FIR applications.
  • Perform simulations using OpticStudio or similar.
  • Select components and manage prototype device testing.
  • Document relevant process stages.
Requirements
  • Degree in Physics or Electronics followed by PhD in applied optics (equivalent industry experience will also be considered).
  • Demonstrable experience with optical systems ideally for machine vision. Additional experience with lasers would be desirable.
  • Strong understanding of ray tracing, lens design, optical simulations, image processing, electro‑optical systems and opto‑mechanics.
  • Experience with optical test methodology and validation.

Security clearance: role is subject to incumbent being security‑cleared (British national residing in the UK for the past 5 years).
