We are seeking a Communication Support Worker to join our team at Philip Southcote School, part of Bourne Education Trust.

The Communication Support Worker is responsible for delivering high-quality, targeted support to deaf pupils, enabling full access to the curriculum and wider school life. Working under the guidance of teachers and senior leaders, the role plays a vital part in promoting student independence, achievement, and inclusion

About Philip Southcote School

Philip Southcote School is a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities School for students aged 11 to 19. Philip Southcote Main School: A 3-Form Entry site for students aged 11 to 16 years.

Philip Southcote Sixth Form: For students age 16 to 19 years, this state of the art and newly opened site at The Meads is within walking distance from the main school.

Philip Southcote Satellite Centres: Our centres are based within mainstream secondary schools. Chertsey High School, Chertsey, Epsom and Ewell High School and Kings International School, Camberley.

Position: Communication Support Worker

Contract: Termtime, permanent

Start Date: ASAP

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide communication support for deaf students, in line with their needs and preferences (BSL/SSE/Spoken English), in order to access the curriculum and social experiences across the school day
  • Ensure students have the optimum audiological access through regular listening checks, supporting the use of Remote Microphone Systems (RMS) and promoting whole school engagement in the use of Soundfield systems
  • Promotion and facilitation of extra-curricular activities, including after school clubs, targeted boosters and residential trips as appropriate

Requirements include:

  • Ability to demonstrate an awareness, understanding and commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children
  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent appropriate qualification)
  • BSL Level 2 or higher with a commitment to further training in this area
