Commercial Manager – Scotland

Wood Transmission and Distribution is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our growing business. We are a leading provider of engineering and construction services for the UK transmission and distribution sector, working at the forefront of net‑zero 2050. The role is hybrid, offering flexibility to work from home with occasional site visits in Glasgow.

The Role

This position is ideal for a highly experienced Commercial Manager with a background in civil engineering or construction, and consolidated experience delivering large EPC projects. You will be independent, proactive and provide strong leadership and negotiation skills. The successful candidate will manage commercial aspects of a contract currently in the early design stages for new‑build overhead lines over 4+ years, including:

  • Leading a team of commercial reports to provide day‑to‑day commercial administration.
  • Managing revenue and entitlement on an open book basis, estimating construction phases and long‑lead procurement orders, and driving delivery strategy.
  • Delivering target EBIT, addressing unexpected events and managing within budgets.
  • Developing commercial strategy and working alongside clients for the delivery of scopes.

You will manage the commercial delivery of one of Wood T&D Ltd’s largest EPC contracts on a target cost model, ensuring performance and returns. The role offers the chance to contribute to the UK government’s 2030 network capacity pathway and the transition to net zero.

Responsibilities
  • Provide Directors and delivery teams with proactive commercial support and lead delivery of commercial strategies.
  • Ensure effective post‑contract commercial management of the relevant framework, contract or project.
  • Develop relationships with key client personnel and support the client’s project sanction process.
  • Focus on key execution risks and develop robust mitigation plans.
  • Ensure commercial entitlement is pursued and obtained in accordance with contract terms.
  • Manage commercial resources deployed on projects and provide appropriate training and development.
  • Serve necessary contractual notices in accordance with contract terms.
  • Develop and implement effective negotiating strategies for contractual matters.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Law or Business Studies, with an appropriate professional qualification (preferred).
  • Substantial experience in a similar role, with consolidated leadership/management experience ideally within the Transmission and Distribution sector.
  • Proven experience in contract administration, including change management.
  • Awareness of all relevant corporate and project procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, written, verbal and presentation.
  • Ability to communicate complex principles effectively at all levels.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, respect, integrity, innovation and a client‑driven approach.
  • Ability to collaborate across multi‑disciplines at all levels with a practical, hands‑on approach.
  • Flexible to undertake varying work with changing priorities.
