Job Overview: An exciting opportunity to become a permanent Healthcare Assistant on the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU), Ward 6 & SDEC at WCH. The EAU is a 27‑bedbedded unit providing acute care to emergency admissions, soon to be transformed into a Same‑Day Emergency Care unit and Ward 6 Short Stay unit.
Main Duties
- Assist registered nurses and other healthcare practitioners in delivering high quality patient care
- When trained and deemed competent, undertake clinical activities using appropriate equipment
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity and compassionate care at all times
- Contribute to a multidisciplinary team and departmental objectives
- Develop and maintain competencies in nursing tasks to ensure safe, high quality care
- Manage housekeeping, ward upkeep, stock replenishment and equipment cleaning/storing as required
- Work under the direct or indirect supervision of registered or assistant practitioners
Person Specification – Qualifications
- Level 3 vocational qualification OR equivalent short courses and competency workbook in a range of patient and clinical care duties, or equivalent experience
- Theoretical knowledge and experience of a range of care and related procedures
- Knowledge of data protection legislation and health & safety at work legislation
- National Care Certificate or commitment to complete within 12 weeks of employment
- Numeracy and literacy, Level 2
- Relevant training for Clinical Support Workers
Knowledge & Experience
- Experience in health or social care settings
- Recording clinical observations and escalating changes
- Working knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision
- Understanding of robust, accurate, timely documentation
- Safeguarding knowledge; work‑related boundaries; GDPR confidentiality
- Familiarity with NHS and social care policies
- Computer skills, electronic patient records, Trust systems
- Understanding of Trust business and prior Trust experience (preferred)

- Basic IT skills for electronic patient records
