A well-established consulting engineering practice is seeking a Civil / Structural Engineer to join their Liverpool office. The role involves investigating historic structures, preparing technical drawings, and collaborating with conservation architects. Candidates should be near Chartered with relevant degrees, keen on career progression, and competent in report writing. We are a well established consulting engineering practice specialising in building conservation. The head office is in Appleby in Cumbria, with a second office in Liverpool. The practice’s project base includes new work and repairs to cathedrals, bridges, scheduled monuments, churches, castles and listed and traditional buildings located throughout the North of England, North Wales and Southern Scotland.
This opportunity is to join a specialist team of Engineers to assist in investigating defects in historic structures and buildings, and in the structural design of new interventions in historic structures, where we work with established conservation architects.
This is a permanent position in an established practice. The new appointee should be Chartered (ICE or IStructE) or near Chartered. Currently the engineers work full time in the office in Appleby but some home working can be discussed. Staff are typically out of the office on visits for 1-2 days a week.
You must be observant and pay attention to detail, have an interest in the historic environment and preferably have some knowledge of engineering and architectural history. Independent transport is essential, mileage is paid at a reasonable rate. You will also prepare technical drawings in Vectorworks and write reports and specifications.
You must be familiar with design principles and Eurocodes in all the main structural materials, and be literate and fluent in report writing. A degree class 1 or 2.1 is expected, with an objective to become CARE Accredited. As this is a permanent post, ambition to progress within this specialist field is expected, and for which we provide training and CPD.
This position is based in our Cumbria office. The workload is very varied and always interesting. The salary will be competitive.
