Role Overview
The Bid Writer is an integral component of WSP’s Strategic Bids Team, supporting our operational businesses to deliver the Strategic Growth Strategy through work‑winning. The team manages large, complex, multi‑disciplinary bids across the UK in the areas of Transport & Infrastructure, Earth & Environment, Property & Buildings, and Industry & Energy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support delivery of new, sustainable work by building strong links with operational businesses and subject matter experts.
- Gather and collate best practice, improvement and innovation areas, and articulate them into strategic bids.
- Understand internal and external customer requirements to develop quality solutions and author written offers for strategic bids.
- Lead and facilitate content planning sessions, ensuring each bid question is fully understood and answered, aligning with client drivers and our value proposition.
- Generate and forecast written content from planning to final production and submission, including authoring, reviewing and tailoring solutions.
- Develop and enforce WSP’s in‑house style guidance, coaching Bid Team members and subject matter experts in best‑practice writing for bids, client presentations and sales collateral.
- Analyse bids to identify and disseminate good practice that enhances our library of high‑scoring responses.
- Support bid planning, management, review, governance and feedback processes as required. The role requires UK‑wide travel.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree level in an appropriate subject (English preferred; History, Marketing, Journalism or similar also considered).
- Strong IT literacy, particularly MS Word; knowledge of InDesign is desirable.
- Relevant experience in a similar role producing tenders for the markets in which WSP operates.
- Expertise in developing solutions and translating them through excellent written English into winning proposals.
- Demonstrable record of success in formulating and delivering winning bids.
- Strong command of oral and written English, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and compellingly.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills in team environments, including active listening.
- Excellent long‑form content development, editing and proofreading skills.
- Ability to work independently to tight deadlines and influence at senior levels.
- Understanding of the professional services industry and public‑sector procurement processes.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and development of strong internal relationships.
