Job description
Associate Software Developer – Hybrid

At SAS, where you start doesn’t have to be where you end; and there is ample opportunity for internal career mobility. Whether you’re looking to grow a new skill or experience a new role, there’s no time like the present to take the next step; and we’re here to support you in your journey.

About the job

The Platform Products division is looking for an Associate Software Developer to join a team of talented engineers working collaboratively to ideate and deliver a cutting edge, innovative platform enabling SAS’s internal stakeholders to use Generative AI in a secure, high‑performing, lean, and scalable manner. You will contribute to building a platform used by a diverse set of technologies and industries. You will make an impact on how customers experience our software and play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of our products exceed their expectations.

As an Associate Software Developer, you will:
  • Support internal teams in their employment of the platform, helping them leverage the platform to build out GenAI‑fuelled initiatives with a secure and testable framework
  • Design, develop, and maintain high‑quality software solutions using modern programming techniques and best practices.
  • Ensure quality through functional, unit and performance testing; work closely with testing by providing thorough reviews of the test plan and communicate when updates to the plan should be made to cover code changes related to enhancements, redesigns and/or bug fixes.
  • Maintain accountability for the entire life cycle of the code including support for both internal and external consumers.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and maintaining coding standards across the team.
  • Understand and translate product management requirements to features and actionable items.
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably Computer Science or Artificial Intelligence. An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.
  • Experience in developing applications using an object‑oriented language with a focus on best practices, design patterns and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of current software trends and emerging technologies: to evaluate their impact on development practices and apply relevant innovations to enhance our software development practices with an ability to self‑learn.
  • Containerization and orchestration experience, including creating, deploying, and managing containerized applications using tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Ability to conduct code reviews, providing clear feedback to improve code quality, maintainability and adherence to best practices.
  • Experience using version controlling tools, e.g. git and git‑based repositories such as GitHub, including managing repositories, branching strategies, pull requests, and collaboration workflows to enhance team productivity and code quality
  • You’re curious, passionate, authentic and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do
Nice to haves:
  • Experience in using project management tools like Jira for task tracking, sprint planning, and collaboration.
  • Hands‑on experience with CI systems such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins to ensure efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, and ideally their AI services e.g. Azure Open AI.
  • Experience with API Management platforms such as Azure API Management (APIM) or Apache APISIX, including the ability to design, deploy, and maintain scalable APIs.
  • Experience fostering a collaborative environment that encourages growth, knowledge sharing, and confidence‑building to help them succeed in their roles.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of Generative AI technologies and tooling e.g. OpenAI or other LLMs, PromptFlow, Langchain
  • Understanding of the benefits and pitfalls of GenAI implementation
