Job overview

This role is all about making a real difference in respiratory care within the community and at the Halton CDC. As part of the team, you’ll deliver high-quality spirometry and sleep services, ensuring patients of all ages – including children – receive accurate diagnostic testing and compassionate support. From performing spirometry and FeNO tests to issuing overnight sleep study equipment, you’ll guide patients through each procedure with clarity and confidence.

Your responsibilities go beyond clinical work. You’ll keep clinics running smoothly by managing stock levels, preparing equipment bags, and maintaining devices to the highest standards. Administrative tasks such as processing test requisitions and reports will also be part of your day-to-day, ensuring seamless service delivery.

Patient care is at the heart of this role. Compliance with quality standards and Trust policies is essential, and you’ll actively participate in training and communication activities to stay ahead in best practices.

Main duties of the job

The main duties are to deliver the community spirometry service across Warrington and Halton and issuing sleep study equipment in the Community Diagnostic Centre in Halton. You may also be expected to support the physiologists onsite with other ATO duties as services develop.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. The main role for this position is to work in the Community and at the CDC in Halton delivering a high quality spirometry and sleep service.

2. Ensure bags are stocked for the clinics and maintain adequate stock levels within the department.

3. Undertake diagnostic tests clinical tests on patients of all ages including children with the ability to explain to patients about each test and what will be required of them, within an agreed competence. These procedures include:

a. Perform spirometry along with administration of medication where requested.

b. Undertake FeNO testing

d. Issue overnight sleep study equipment and overnight oximeters and download the recordings

4. To undertake cleaning and maintenance of equipment in the department alerting appropriate senior staff when there is a fault.

5. Transport, escort and chaperone of patients. You may be required to assist with lifting and handling of patients

6. Routine clerical/administrative duties to include processing test requisitions and reports.

7. Assist with ensuring compliance with all quality standards.

8. Participate in all communication and training activities.

9. When required, to assist the CPAP service in supplying consumables to patients, coordinating the telephone messages, and stock control.

10. To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures as laid out in the Employee Handbook and Departmental Quality Guidelines.

11. To be able to perform basic life support.
