# Assistant Professor in Sensor TechnologiesThe Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CEB) seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Sensor Technologies from April 2026. Upon successful completion of probation, the role will convert to Associate Professor.The post holder will lead the new MRes in Sensor Technologies and Applications (), launching in October 2026. The programme will connect closely with the world leading EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Sensor Technologies and Applications, also hosted by CEB (cdt.sensors.cam.ac.uk) and aims to train future leaders across the full sensor-science value chain.Candidates should have an internationally recognised research profile in an area supporting this theme, aligned with the Department's impact areas in sustainability or healthcare. The role includes delivering the MRes, conducting world-leading research, and contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across CEB.CEB is known for advancing science and technology at the intersection of chemistry, physics, mathematics and biology, and for tackling global challenges in energy, the environment and healthcare. The Department maintains strong industrial partnerships and has an established culture of commercialisation. Its teaching is internationally acclaimed, and its graduates pursue diverse careers across research, industry and commerce.Located on the West Cambridge site, the Department comprises around 30 academic staff, 50 academic-related/support staff, 75 postdoctoral researchers, 150 PhD students, 40 MPhil students and 200 undergraduates, with annual research income of approx. 15 million.The successful candidate will lead an internationally competitive research group and teach broadly across the Chemical Engineering Tripos (research/teaching split approx. 60:40). A strong teaching record is desirable, and willingness to teach outside one's immediate research area is essential.Applicants should demonstrate excellence in original research, evidenced by high-quality publications, secure external funding, and contribute to teaching, supervision and examining. Administrative duties are shared across academic staff, and participation in Department and University committees is encouraged.
