Job summary

The role

We’re now looking for a motivated & experienced Analytics Engineer to join the Jensten Group, based from our Oldham office (we will also consider working remotely for the right person). The main purpose of the role is to bridge the gap between data engineering and business intelligence, creating robust, scalable analytics solutions that empower stakeholders to make data-driven decisions. This role focuses on developing semantic models, building compelling Power BI reports and dashboards, and ensuring data is transformed and presented in ways that tell clear, actionable stories. Some key objectives & responsibilities will include:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards that deliver actionable insights to business stakeholders.
  • Create semantic models in Microsoft Fabric that support consistent, governed reporting across the organisation.
  • Work with business users to understand their analytical needs and translate them into effective visualisations.
  • Apply principles of visual design and data storytelling to ensure reports are intuitive, engaging, and drive action.
  • Present insights and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • Develop and maintain DAX measures and calculations that power analytical insights.
  • Write efficient T-SQL queries to extract and transform data from SQL Server and Fabric warehouses.
  • Partner with business teams including retail, underwriting, claims, finance, and operations to understand their data and reporting needs.
  • Provide training and support to business users on Power BI and self-service analytics capabilities.
  • Implement governance standards for Power BI, including workspace management, dataset certification, and security.
About you

As our Analytics Engineer, you’ll have strong technical skills in Microsoft Fabric and Power BI, combined with excellent communication abilities and a passion for turning data into insights. You’ll also have a strong teamwork ethic, communication, and collaborative skills with a keen eye for detail. You’ll also be or have:

  • Strong experience developing Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouses, Warehouses, and Dataflows.
  • Strong skills in writing complex DAX calculations and optimising model performance.
  • Working knowledge of T-SQL for data extraction and transformation.
  • Understanding of dimensional modelling, star schemas, and data warehouse concepts.
  • Exceptional ability to translate complex data into clear, compelling narratives that drive business decisions.
  • Ability to understand business processes and identify opportunities for data-driven improvements.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Insurance/ Financial Services industry background (ideally)
