Job summary

The Local Government Authority in Scotland is seeking a Technician Craft Operative to carry out maintenance on air source heat pump systems. To carry out the duties of a Technician Craft Operative Air Source Heat Pump Engineer and to contribute to the provision of an efficient and effective maintenance service.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Plumbing & Heating Coordinator/Supervisor as required and be responsible for carrying out a range of Air Source Heat Pump servicing and maintenance works with minimal supervision.
  • Provide out of hours cover when required.
  • Undertake training as required.
  • Comply with all Health and Safety and security procedures and guidelines.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably expected from time to time.
Requirements
  • Full working knowledge of domestic air source (ASHP) heating systems (manufactured by Daiken, Mitsubishi, Nibe & Valiant).
  • Full working knowledge of domestic heat recovery units.
  • Demonstrable proven experience as an ASHP service and maintenance engineer including diagnosis and defects knowledge.
  • City & Guilds – Level 2 Diploma in installing, testing and maintaining air‑conditioning and heat pump systems, and/or significant demonstrable experience in inspection, servicing and maintenance of a range of ASHP systems.
  • Ability to work safely on own initiative, unsupervised to deliver works to high quality in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Self‑confident and self‑motivated, with the ability to make decisions and resolve problems within clearly defined parameters.
  • Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the requirements of regulations and standards relating to the installation, testing and commissioning of air source heat pump system (including non‑refrigerant circuits).
  • Full driving licence.
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional technical skill, ability and experience beyond that expected of an ACO Air Source Heat Pump Service & Maintenance Engineer (Technician) and the ability to take off quantities and measure work, assess labour requirements and control and supervise all manner of domestic and non‑domestic ASHP installations in the most economic and effective way and achieve a high level of productivity.
  • Able to communicate effectively with both members of the public and colleagues in a professional and courteous manner, work on your own or as part of a team and contribute to the practice of effective team working.
  • Willingness to accept direction/delegation and work under pressure, delivering high levels of customer care.
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service, travelling efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray (normally by car or van).
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to move and handle equipment and materials in accordance with manual handling regulations.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our Building Services team at the DLO, that directly employ over 150 multi‑trade and specialist support staff. Services provided include building maintenance and improvement services to the Council's 6,300 houses, as well as reactive and planned maintenance to other Council buildings that include schools, offices and libraries.
