Acute Oncology Specialist Nurse (Band 6)
Salary: £38,682 – £46,580 pro rata per annum

Job Overview: We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated registered nurse to join our Acute Oncology Team. The successful candidate will have experience in oncology and/or SACT, be able to work independently, autonomously, and as part of a team.

Main duties of the job
  • Clinical assessment of unwell oncology patients with Acute Oncology needs and liaise with day units and oncologists.
  • Internal and external audits for Acute Oncology as required.
  • SACT Mortality & Morbidity reviews.
  • Trust-wide teaching of Acute Oncology education, including inter-departmental teaching and students.
  • Possibility of leadership, advanced clinical skills, and decision-making.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Be part of a team to deliver an Acute Oncology Nursing Service.
  • Monitor, evaluate and implement the highest standards of evidence-based care.
  • Undertake specific projects at the request of the Acute Oncology lead.
  • Participate in the delivery of an Acute Oncology Service—assessing, offering advice/treatment plans, and evaluating care. Review and implement care plans for patients presenting with acute oncology emergencies (e.g., MSCC).
  • Role model compassionate and inclusive leadership, engaging, enabling, and empowering others, coaching for ownership of learning and quality improvement, and facilitating teamwork within and across departments.
  • Be part of the on-call rota for the emergency helpline.
Person specification
Qualifications
  • Degree in Nursing or relevant degree level study, or working towards one.
  • Registered mentor, teaching and assessing qualification, or equivalent.
  • Accredited SACT training and/or SACT passport, or equivalent SACT experience.
  • Advanced Clinical Skills Course or willingness to undertake.
  • Advanced Communication Skills Course or willingness to undertake.
  • Professional knowledge of specialist procedures, supplemented by diploma-level specialist training, experience, and short courses.
  • Relevant haematology experience and counselling certificate.
  • Non-medical prescriber.
  • QI training or experience; evidence of research or audit relevant to practice area.
  • IRMER trained.
